You may have more to do with Pops in Stellaris, but ES2 basically offers the same resulting functionalities in a less convoluted manner. Random Tech trees seems novel until you realize there is very few tech actually worth researching at all. It's a good game, don't get me wrong, but since you can basically build anything you want on a planet for example you just build nearly everything except for a few trash buildings (not like there's much choice in the first place).

Right now, even has a pacifist you need to wage wars for expand and every thing, is played the same way.Ĭlick to expand.Stellaris doesn't have deeper empire management lol, it's as arcadey and shallow as the worst of them, half of the time you don't even get to manage them at all. But you can actually RP when the universe you are in is capable off it and offer flesh to tale a story or play the way you want. biological path only add traits points and synthetic make you synthetic, loosing all traits you have in the process and bugged as shit (only capital turn synthetic, only main specie.)ĭeep empire management?! You are thinking about the dull empire management system which are factions? Or the ethos which are totally the same and don't offer an unique playstyle? I will tend to agree with you, that create your empire let you more freedom and it's a good RP point. And even in these psionic path is much more fleshed and interresting than the two others. You speak about the ascension perk which are, for half of them quite dull? (100% cost removed for title cleaning for an ascension perk?) and where, the only cool ones are the the 3 paths of evolution (synthetic, biologic and psionic). Though there should be way more of them because they are basically the only story element in the game. The tech system, it's always fun to see what you draw up this time, though it could be even more random.ģ. It's a game and feels like a game and has zero immersion.ġ.Random civs. Feels more like a chore, and there's no context to it beyond "Ogg want ogg take", no big buildup of hostilities no breakdown of diplomatic relations no last ditch attempts to preserve peace, no millions of people dead because of it. But the war compoent is pushed very hard as a big feature and it's neither fun nor really interesting. Sure there are some thigns to do, end game crisises, hunting guardians, and if you like me play on a very empty galaxy you cna keep the exploration up and see some more intresting anaomalies. but why would I want one I am already storng enogh so that no one will attack me. and you relaize well I could get a bigger navy. Stellaris is nothing like that, sure there's some initial fun to be had with trying to get your economy up as fast as possible but at a certain point you start raking in hundreds of minerals per month, and then you start thinking oh what should I spend it on. granted like a lto of paradox games the game pushes it very hard, but building your economy is a lot more fun.

It just boggles my mind how underrated Distant Worlds is.Ĭlick to expand.Have you played vic2? war is litterally the least itnresting part of it. I can't comment on GalCiv3 (played too much Civ in my years, not interested) or Endless Space 2 (i liked the "endless games" tough), as i have never played them.

I haven't played Stellaris since almost a year (outside of a quick MP session to see the, to me, underwhelming DLC content), yet i'm still playing DW after almost 2 thousand hours played. The fact that DW was mostly made by one man and Stellaris by the biggest "grand strategy" developer studio on the planet makes it even more remarkeable. Even the bad UI is often more accessible than Stellaris' (expansion planner, planet list). Just compare galaxy creation screens or the economy (unlike Stellaris, DW has one) to get an impression on the differences, but it obviously goes way deeper than that. They improved some aspects (exploration and anomalies, for instance) but overall it doesn't come close to Distant Worlds. Many things in Stellaris are inspired from it, a comment regarding that from a dev/marketing was what made me buy it. If you don't mind a clunky and sometimes plain ugly UI and no multiplayer, Distant Worlds Universe (game with all DLC's) still is the best 4X game by far.
